A bishop and several worshippers were stabbed during a service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, western Sydney. The incident, which occurred on April 15, 2024, was captured during a live broadcast on the church’s YouTube channel. Sydney’s New South Wales Police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the attack, which left Bishop Mari Emmanuel and three others injured. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were reported as non-life-threatening.

The attack on the church follows closely on the heels of a separate violent event, where a stabbing rampage at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre resulted in six deaths just days earlier. The recent wave of violence has significantly unsettled the local community.

The motive behind the attacks is still under investigation by authorities. In the wake of the incident, local officials, including Mayor Frank Carbone, have appealed for public calm and cooperation with law enforcement. As Sydney grapples with these consecutive tragic events, security and safety concerns remain heightened throughout the community.
