Ukraine prime minister warns of potential global crisis without immediate aid

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has issued a stark warning about the risk of the ongoing conflict escalating to a global scale, highlighting the urgent need for international military support as the US Congress deliberates a substantial aid package.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has warned that the ongoing conflict with Russia could escalate into a global crisis akin to World War Three unless Ukraine receives immediate military support. This statement was made as the US Congress considers a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, which includes substantial security funding. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also highlighted the risk of further Russian aggression, potentially extending to Poland, a NATO member.
Amidst these developments, Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, expressed concerns over proposals by the US to use over €260 billion of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. She cautioned that this could breach international law and create a divide in approaches among the G7 nations. UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and EU leaders have emphasized the importance of adhering to international law while seeking solutions to financially support Ukraine.
Furthermore, the recent deadly airstrike in Chernihiv, Ukraine, which resulted in at least 17 deaths, has brought urgent calls from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg for increased military aid to Ukraine, including more Patriot air defense systems. President Zelensky reiterated the need for advanced air defenses to combat Russian hypersonic missiles.
In another development, allegations have surfaced of Russian forces using banned tear gas against Ukrainian troops, a tactic reported by Kyiv officials, including Colonel Serhii Pakhomov. This accusation highlights the severe challenges faced by Ukraine in the conflict, now in its third year, marked by a lack of sufficient military supplies and international support.
As global leaders discuss and implement measures to assist Ukraine, the outcome of these efforts remains crucial for the stabilization of the region and the broader implications for international security and law.
