IMC Trading has announced the return of its market simulation challenge, Prosperity, aimed at university students in STEM disciplines, with a total prize pool of $50,000 USD.
In a unique confluence of education, technology, and finance, IMC Trading has unveiled the return of its groundbreaking market simulation challenge, aptly named Prosperity. The competition, which first made waves in 2023, is targeted at university students worldwide who are currently pursuing studies in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. The Amsterdam-based global market maker is set to host this competition from April 8-23, offering an engaging platform for participants to showcase their trading acumen in a virtual island archipelago setting.
The challenge simulates various scenarios that traders might encounter in the real world, making it an invaluable and practical learning experience for students. Over the course of five trading rounds, participants will be faced with tasks requiring them to apply positional and algorithmic trading skills, along with a basic knowledge of Python programming. Competitors can choose to enter the fray alone or assemble a team of up to five members, all vying to outperform their peers and lead their island to prosperity.
Building on the remarkable success of its inaugural run, which saw engagement from over 400 universities spanning 109 countries, the 2024 iteration of Prosperity comes with freshly designed challenges by some of IMC’s top traders. This move aims to elevate the competition’s complexity and educational value, pushing participants to adopt creative and strategic approaches akin to those required in a professional trading environment.
The enticing prize pool of $50,000 USD further underscores the competition’s scale and ambition. The victorious team, crowned as the IMC Global Trading Talent of the Year, will walk away with a cash prize of $25,000 USD. The remainder of the prize money will be distributed among the runners-up, down to the 25th place, including a special prize for the Best Manual Trader, ensuring a wide recognition of talent among the participants.
Prosperity not only serves as a competitive platform but also as a potential career gateway. Reflecting on the previous edition, Matthew Rose, Global Marketing Manager at IMC, highlighted that 94% of the participants expressed an increased interest in pursuing a career in trading. The competition is a part of IMC’s broader effort to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application in the finance sector, encouraging more STEM students to explore trading as a viable and exciting career path.
Registration for the challenge is open until April 8th, with details available on the official Prosperity website. Registered teams gain access to a dedicated Wiki and a Discord server, providing a community space for interaction with fellow contestants and IMC professionals, enriching the overall experience with insights and preparation tips for the upcoming challenge.
As a leading global market maker, IMC has established a formidable presence in the financial world, leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative strategies across its global offices, including Amsterdam, Chicago, Sydney, and Hong Kong, among others. The company’s enduring commitment to nurturing new talent through initiatives like Prosperity reflects its broader ambition to shape the future of finance by integrating the brightest minds from the STEM fields into its dynamic trading environment.
