Caroline Powell clinches her first victory at the Badminton Horse Trials

New Zealand rider Caroline Powell secures a landmark first win at the esteemed Badminton Horse Trials, as British veteran William Fox-Pitt bids farewell to the competition.

At the recent Badminton Horse Trials, Caroline Powell of New Zealand secured her first victory at this prestigious event. Riding Greenacres Special Cavalier, Powell advanced from sixth place to clinch the title, leaving the competition in her wake during the show-jumping round held on May 12, 2024.

This edition of the trials was notably marked by British rider William Fox-Pitt’s final appearance, concluding a significant 35-year career at Badminton. Despite high hopes and a strong position after the cross-country round, Fox-Pitt finished without the fairy-tale ending, as he encountered setbacks during the show-jumping finale.

Behind Powell, Lucy Latta from Ireland took second place, while Alex Bragg of the United Kingdom achieved third. The event not only celebrated new achievements but also commemorated the impressive career of Fox-Pitt, a celebrated veteran with 20 major championship medals to his name.

The trials took place amidst a robust field of competitors, including Tim Price of New Zealand, who initially led the event but faltered on the final day. The Badminton Horse Trials remain a highlight on the international equestrian calendar, showcasing top-tier talent and emergent champions in the sport.
