Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit transitions to NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs

Louis Rees-Zammit, formerly famed for his rugby prowess in Wales, embarks on a new challenge in American football, joining NFL champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on a three-year contract.

Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit, known for his talents on the rugby field, has shifted his athletic career to American football by signing a three-year contract with the NFL champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Rees-Zammit, aged 21, is currently adapting to the complexities of American football, likening learning the NFL playbook to mastering a new language.

Rees-Zammit recently compared his former rugby teammate, Dan Biggar, with NFL star Patrick Mahomes, noting similarities in their game reading and decision-making abilities. Biggar, aged 34, recently retired from international rugby following his participation in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Despite the exciting career move, Rees-Zammit has expressed feelings of homesickness, missing elements of his native Wales, including his family and local delicacies like Welsh cakes. The young athlete is now participating in rookie minicamp, aiming to secure a place on the Chiefs’ roster and to make his mark in the NFL.
