New Mountain Lion Spotted in Hollywood Hills
Los Angeles, CA – A mountain lion has been sighted in Griffith Park, two years after the passing of the famous P-22, once dubbed the “Brad Pitt” of LA’s wildlife. This recent sighting has sparked local interest and prompted wildlife experts to investigate.
The sighting occurred near the Hollywood sign, an area P-22 frequented before being euthanized in 2022 due to illness. Vladimir Polumiskov captured and shared footage of the animal, emphasizing its beauty.
Beth Pratt, California Executive Director of the National Wildlife Federation, has cautioned the public to avoid approaching or photographing the mountain lion. The National Park Service is currently assessing the authenticity of the sighting and may designate the lion as P-122 if confirmed.
California hosts an estimated 3,200 to 4,500 mountain lions, with around 15 residing in the Santa Monica Mountains. The recent sighting might indicate the integration of a new lion into the local ecosystem.
