ONE Gas and Chesapeake Utilities Corporation have recently announced major updates in their operations aimed at sustainability and safety improvements.

ONE Gas, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has released its annual Sustainability Report for 2023, emphasizing its continuous commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and diversity. The company has been recognized for having the lowest severe injury incident rate among mega-sized natural gas distribution companies in the U.S. for the seventh year in a row. It reported a 50% reduction in CO2e emissions from 2005 to 2023 and aims to achieve a 55% drop in Scope 1 emissions by 2035. In terms of workforce diversity, 59% of new hires were women or from historically underrepresented groups. Additionally, ONE Gas contributed $3.4 million to community initiatives and maintains significant operations in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, serving 2.3 million customers.

In another sector, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has initiated its first renewable natural gas (RNG) injections at Yulee, Florida. The injections, originating from their RNG facility at Full Circle Dairy in Madison County, mark the beginning of the commissioning phase. The facility, operational since early June 2024 and constructed with a $22 million investment, captures and converts methane from dairy manure into RNG. This project expects to produce 100,000 dekatherms of RNG annually, reducing methane emissions significantly. Chesapeake Utilities’ subsidiary, Marlin Gas Services, is responsible for transporting the RNG.

Meanwhile, an emergency closure has been implemented on Kents Hill Road, Benfleet, to facilitate urgent gas leak repairs carried out by Cadent. This closure, starting from June 25, 2024, might last for up to 21 days but is anticipated to be completed by July 3.

These advancements underline both companies’ efforts in prioritizing safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable energy solutions.
