Police arrest two in connection with funeral home investigation in Hull

A major police investigation is underway at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the removal of 34 bodies amid allegations of fraud and improper conduct.

Two individuals, a 46-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, have been arrested by Humberside Police in connection with a disturbing situation involving the care of deceased individuals at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, UK. This action followed after police launched an investigation, which led to the removal of 34 bodies from the funeral home’s premises amid allegations of fraud and the prevention of a lawful and respectful burial.

The inquiry began after concerns were raised about the funeral director’s practices, specifically regarding the storage and management of the deceased. The police operation extended across three branches of the funeral home, located in Hull and the East Riding region, with cordons established to facilitate the investigation.

Authorities have since been working to identify the deceased, cooperating closely with local councils, coroners, and other agencies. A dedicated phone line set up for concerned individuals has received over 350 calls, indicating widespread alarm and the need for support for the families impacted.

Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin emphasized the complexity and sensitivity of the situation, assuring the public that the police are committed to thoroughly investigating the matter and providing the necessary support to the affected families. Families of the deceased are being assisted by specially trained officers and victim support services during what has been described as an unprecedented and distressing time.
