Royal family mourns at Thomas Kingston’s solemn funeral

The Royal Family, alongside close friends and family, gathered at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace to bid farewell to Thomas Kingston. The somber event was marked by the absence of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall due to prior commitments and health issues.

The funeral of Thomas Kingston, who tragically passed away at the age of 45 following a traumatic head injury, was held at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace in central London. Attended by various members of the Royal Family, including Prince William, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra, the service took place in a somber atmosphere. Lady Gabriella Windsor, Thomas Kingston’s widow and daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, marked a poignant anniversary of their first public outing as a couple nine years ago on the same date. The couple was not considered working royals but had been happily married until Kingston’s untimely passing.

Thomas Kingston was found deceased at his parents’ home in Gloucestershire. An inquest into his death concluded that he died from a traumatic head wound, with senior coroner Katy Skerrett deeming his death not suspicious. Buckingham Palace released a statement expressing condolences from Their Majesties, reflecting the deep sadness felt by Lady Gabriella, the Kingston family, and those who knew him.

The funeral service, led by Rev Canon Paul Wright and with a sermon from the former bishop of London, Rt Rev Richard Chartres, was attended by around 140 close friends and family. Notable absences included the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, with Prince Charles undergoing cancer treatment and the Queen engaged in prior commitments. The ceremony, described as private and emotional, moved from the chapel to a reception at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family’s attendance at Thomas Kingston’s funeral highlighted the respect and sympathy extended towards Lady Gabriella and her loved ones during this challenging time.
