Series of incidents affect United Airlines flights, including diverted trip due to unruly passenger
A United Airlines flight from London to Newark was diverted after an incident with an intoxicated passenger, amidst a week of mishaps for the airline involving emergency landings and runway incidents.
A United Airlines flight destined for Newark was diverted to Maine following an incident involving an intoxicated British passenger. The disruption occurred when 30-year-old Alexander MacDonald became unruly and threatened the safety of those on board, leading to his restraint by fellow passengers. MacDonald faces charges including interference with the flight crew and assault. The flight, originating from London, was allowed to continue to Newark Liberty Airport after the passenger was removed by law enforcement. United Airlines has banned MacDonald from future flights, pending a review of the incident. Investigations are being conducted by the Bangor Police Department, Customs and Border Protection, and the FBI.
In a separate event, a United Airlines plane veered off the runway and onto the grass at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport. This incident involved 160 passengers and six crew members, with no injuries reported. It marked the third mishap for the airline within a week. Authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration, are investigating.
Another United Airlines flight experienced an emergency landing in Los Angeles after losing a tyre during takeoff from San Francisco. The dislodged tyre struck a vehicle before resting in a parking lot. Additionally, a flight from Houston to Fort Myers had to return due to an in-flight engine fire earlier in the week. United Airlines is working with Boeing and relevant authorities to comprehend the circumstances behind these incidents, ensuring passenger safety and care.
