The incident occurred when the small aircraft, en route from Canada and having passed through Pennsylvania and Kentucky, encountered engine failure. In an attempt to make an emergency landing at John C Tune Airport, the plane burst into flames on the side of Interstate 40. The pilot’s final communication, stating, “I’m too far away, I won’t make it,” was captured by air traffic control. The collision involved a Cessna 172 operated by Ninety-Nines Flying School and a Dash 8 aircraft belonging to Safarilink, which was carrying 39 passengers and five crew members at the time. Despite sustaining damage to its tail, the Safarilink plane managed to return safely to Nairobi-Wilson Airport, with no injuries reported to those on board. The event occurred approximately at 10:05 am local time, with all affected passengers subsequently transferred to another flight that safely reached its destination. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation to determine the specifics of the collision, involving the Air Accident Investigation Department and the National Police Service.
