Hussein, who has Down syndrome and autism and is non-verbal, fled from a park leading to widespread concern for his safety, especially given the extreme heat conditions. The New South Wales (NSW) police have expressed “very serious concerns” for his well-being after he has been missing for three days.
Hussein’s family is distressed, and the community has been urged to assist in the search. Inspector Mark Wakeham of the NSW police has appealed to residents to check their properties and report any sightings immediately. Over 100 State Emergency Service volunteers have joined the efforts, navigating the challenges posed by Hussein’s non-verbal communication.
Superintendent Simon Glasser highlighted Hussein’s vulnerability, noting the critical nature of the situation after the boy has spent two hot days without food. The police are reviewing CCTV footage and have emphasized that there is no indication Hussein boarded a train, suggesting he may still be near the area he was last seen.
The police have asked anyone who spots Hussein to call emergency services and maintain visual contact, emphasizing the urgency of finding him given his condition and the risks posed by his prolonged absence.
