The Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) area, a major hub in the world of transportation, is accelerating its journey towards sustainable energy with the introduction of two new fueling stations dedicated to serving fleet vehicles with renewable natural gas (RNG). This development is a substantial stride towards cleaner, more sustainable fuel alternatives for heavy-duty trucks and other fleet vehicles.
Operated by Clean Energy Fuels Corp., a leader in providing clean fuel for the transportation sector, these stations are positioned at strategic locations in North Fort Worth and South Dallas. Their proximity to major highways and distribution centers enhances access to RNG, marking a significant leap in making ultra-low carbon fuel a practical option for fleets. This move comes at a vital time, as the industry seeks reliable alternatives to meet the growing demand for decarbonization.
RNG stands apart as one of the few fuels achieving a carbon-negative rating, offering a greener alternative to diesel while maintaining comparable convenience. Its introduction is timely, coinciding with the anticipated commercial availability of the Cummins’ X15N, a 15-liter natural gas engine tailored for heavy-duty trucks. The expansion of RNG availability is not just limited to these two stations but extends through Clean Energy’s network of over 600 stations. This expansion is crucial for a variety of vehicles, including the seven hundred Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses and numerous sanitation trucks, airport shuttles, and vehicles supporting DFW and Austin-Bergstrom airports, all of which run on RNG.
Located in the heart of a key transportation hub, the stations at 895 Railhead Drive, Haslet and 4480 Logistics Drive, Dallas, are designed to cater to the heavy-duty vehicles that are integral to the logistics and distribution industries. With features such as multiple fast-fill dispensers and private overnight fueling posts, these stations promise efficiency and convenience for fleet operators, encouraging a switch to RNG.
Beyond providing cleaner fueling options, Clean Energy is also deeply invested in RNG production. By harnessing methane from dairy farm waste to produce RNG, the company is addressing emissions from both agriculture and transportation, two significant sources of greenhouse gases in the U.S. Projects like the RNG facility at Del Rio Dairy in Friona, TX, which commenced RNG production in 2023, exemplify this effort to close the loop on emissions, furthering the environmental benefits of RNG as a transport fuel.
